Revered Asian American community leader, educator Franklin Odo dies


Odo, who helped found UH Mānoa’s ethnic studies program and served as its first permanent director, died last month due to complications from cancer. He was 83. A Kaimukī High School graduate, Odo was also a founding board member of the Japanese American Citizens League’s Honolulu chapter.

Fort Street Mall murder suspect deemed fit to stand trial


Razi White is charged with murder in the death of 57-year-old Michael Stubbs. White, 30, allegedly hit Stubbs in the head with a metal water bottle on May 3, causing Stubbs to fall and hit his head.

Hawaiian Electric grants/donations strengthen environmental protection, sustainability efforts by locally-based nonprofits

Hawaiian Electric has awarded a total of $83,000 in environmental grants and donations to eight local nonprofit organizations contributing to the long-term protection and sustainability of Hawai‘i’s unique ecosystem. The funds will support habitat conservation and restoration, reforestation, native and protected species recovery, and community engagement programs.
