Shortened Honolulu rail plan approved by Federal Transit Administration

The Federal Transit Administration has approved the Honolulu rail's financial recovery plan which outlines a truncated version of the rail line, 1.25 miles short of Ala Moana Center, and postpones construction of a parking garage in Pearl Highlands. The soon-to-be amended Full Funding Grant Agreement means $125 million will be released by the FTA.

How Hawai‘i can help those impacted by Hurricane Ian

The Blood Bank of Hawai‘i is encouraging Hawai‘i residents to donate blood to support patients in the impacted areas by the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. Individuals with type O blood are especially encouraged to roll up their sleeves because they are the universal blood type.

Maui’s ban on non-mineral sunscreens to go into effect


The rule — which bans the sale, distribution and use of non-mineral sunscreens without a prescription — is designed to protect coral reefs and other marine life. Chemicals in traditional sunscreens have been shown to be harmful.

New dialysis center opens at Kuakini Medical Center in Honolulu


Kuakini Medical Center in Honolulu is opening the state’s first dialysis center for patients who live with end-stage renal disease. The nonprofit kidney dialysis provider, Satellite Healthcare, is supplying the equipment. Hawaiʻi Kidney Care at Kuakini is also partnering with The Queen’s Health System and Hawai‘i Medical Service Association.
