WAILUKU, Hawaii (KITV4) -- Maui County is relaxing its rule requiring business patrons to show that they’ve received a booster shot to be considered fully vaccinated. The revision went into effect Monday, Feb. 7
Mayor Michael Victorino announced the relaxed restriction as his weekly coronavirus press conference.
“Due to the number of cases dropping throughout the county and the state. And our hospitals being lessened with the burden of high numbers,” Victorino cited as reasons for relaxing the restriction, which had only been officially in place since Jan. 24.
Victorino said he consulted with county health officials and decided to go forward with the recommendation that showing proof of updated vaccination including the booster shot would no longer be required.
Patrons will still be required to show proof of being fully vaccinated -- that means either two shots of Moderna or Pfizer or one dose of Johnson & Johnson.
