US Attorney for Hawaii Kenji Price confirms resignation

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Kenji Price, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Hawaii, has confirmed he is resigning.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Price said he sent a letter to President Joe Biden that he would be resigning effective Sunday, Feb. 21.

“Serving as U.S. Attorney for the District of Hawaii — the chief federal law enforcement officer in the District— is a privilege that I will forever cherish,” Price said, in the statement. “The career attorneys, professional staff, and contactors in my office do tremendous work day-in and day-out enforcing the law and defending the interests of the United States in civil litigation. "

It’s common for new presidents to replace U.S. attorneys. Last week, the U.S. Department of Justice said President Biden has begun the transition process for U.S. attorneys and that nearly all presidential appointees from the previous administration have offered their resignations.

Former President Donald Trump nominated Price in 2018. Prior to that, Price was the director of Alston, Hunt, Floyd & Ing, a large law firm in Honolulu.

President Biden is expected to make an announcement on his nominations of new U.S. attorneys.
