Keeping Waikiki safe for residents and tourists was the main topic Thursday at a conference to discuss crime-related issues in Hawaii's key visitor destination. Officials say they hope a new crackdown on crime will not disrupt tourism in the area.

HONOLULU (KITV4) - Public safety and tourism leaders are taking more steps to address growing crimes in Waikiki.

The Visitor Industry Public Safety Coalition and the Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association hosted today's safety conference at the Hawaii Convention Center. It was open to the public.
