The Honolulu Neighborhood Commission Office announced on Tuesday the results of its recent elections.

This year, 495 candidates filed to run, and 402 were elected, the office said. Over 26,000 people voted, mostly online.

“Congratulations to all of the neighborhood board members who were elected to represent the community on a variety of meaningful topics,” Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi said in a statement.

“This is a valuable community service and their contributions will go a long way in improving quality of life in their respective communities.”

The Neighborhood Board System was established in 1973 by the City and County of Honolulu. It is made up of 33 boards across the island.

Elections are held every two years.
