HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Police are investigating an attack at a North Shore home on Tuesday morning that left three family members injured and the suspect in critical condition.

Police said the victims and suspect are all related.

The incident happened on Wehiwa Way near Sunset Beach around 8:10 a.m., when the suspect allegedly slashed at the victims with an “edged weapon.”

Sources told Hawaii News Now the weapon was a utility knife.

When police arrived, the 28-year-old suspect “became unresponsive” after officers put him in handcuffs. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Two family members were seriously injured in the incident: A 24-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman. A 50-year-old man at the home sustained minor injuries and declined transport to a hospital.

Capt. Gordon Lum Kee, executive officer for District 2 (Wahiawa), said three second-degree assault cases have been opened. He added that the victims all had “slashing injuries.”

Kid Peligro, who lives nearby, said she heard yelling and then sirens.

“We started hearing sirens. One ambulance, one firetruck, two firetrucks, three firetrucks. Next thing you know there was like a million of them,” she said.

She described the scene as “chaotic.”
