The U.S. Army wants to continue using more than 6,000 acres of state land on Oahu for military training -- and it is seeking public comment.
The Army is preparing an environmental impact statement for continued use of Kahuku Training Area, Poamoho Training Area and Makua Military Reservation. The Army, Marine Corps and Hawaii Army National Guard all use it for exercises.
The Army has leased these lands since 1964, and the current leases expire in 2029.
The public scoping process will run until Sept. 1.
Oral comments will be accepted in person on Aug. 10 and 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Leilehua Golf Course (199 Leileahua Golf Course Road, Wahiawa, HI 96786). Residents can also call (808) 556-8277 on Aug. 10 and 11 from 4 to 9 p.m.
