HONOLULU (KITV4) -- The City and County of Honolulu has drafted a building code violation notice that it plans to issue to the property owner where a 15-foot retaining wall fell and killed a 22-year-old man in Kailua on December 30.
The violation is for not having the proper permits to repair that wall.
The Department of Planning and Permitting filed a report on Wednesday showing the owner of the 1444 Akiikii Place home did not have the proper permits for repairs. They will have until March 6 to correct the violation.
KITV4 reached out to the owner for comment but have not heard back at this time.
That wall partially collapsed on Brigham Young University football player Sione Veikoso and two other men. Veikoso was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other men were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The collapse is still under investigation. The Hawaii Occupational Safety and Health Administration is looking into what caused the wall to come down and says that investigation could take up to six months.
