The Hawaii Department of Health has cleared the drinking water in two more Pearl Harbor-area zones as safe, the department announced on Tuesday.

They are Zones D4 – a non-residential area used by the Hawaii Air National Guard, The Lanai at Mamala Bay restaurant and Mamala Bay Golf Course – and E1, which is made up of U.S. Pacific Fleet headquarters and the Makalapa neighborhood, which includes Navy housing, Navy Hale Keiki School and Montessori Center of Pearl Harbor, the Navy’s joint information center said in a press release.

With the addition of those areas, the state and its partners in the military have OK’d nine of the 19 zones affected by the Navy’s water contamination crisis.

“Today’s amendment brings us one step closer to restoring clean, safe drinking water to all of our families and communities, which is only possible through close coordination with interagency partners,” Capt. Erik Spitzer, commander of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, said in a statement.

“In addition to clearing the remaining 10 zones, we are implementing our long-term monitoring plan, which includes sampling over the next two years.”

With the amendment of the health advisory, residents will be notified that their water is safe to drink and those who are staying in hotel rooms are expected to return to their homes within two days, the Navy said.
