HONOLULU (KITV4) -- Happening today, the City and County of Honolulu will begin construction of a pedestrian crossing beacon in Kalihi.
The construction began at 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of King Street and Richard Lane. Drivers can expect lane closures on King Street, where one lane will be closed in each direction of travel, nearest the median.
Left turns from King Street onto Richard Lane, and left turns from Richard Lane onto King Street will be prohibited.
Drivers will only be able to turn onto Richard Lane from the westbound lanes of North King Street. Left-hand turns from North King Street onto Richard Lane will not be allowed during construction. Construction runs Monday through Friday until Nov. 10.
This is just the first of three pedestrian crossing beacons to be installed -- one on each side of King Street and one on the Diamond Head side median with crossing beacons to face oncoming traffic in each direction. The crosswalk and stripe bars will be re-striped.
Pedestrian crossings will also be closed during construction.
