Hawaiian Home Lands to receive $22M in federal funds, Sen. Brian Schatz announces

Department of Hawaiian Home Lands

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands will receive $22.3 million in federal funds through this year's appropriations bill, U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz announced.

It's the highest level of funding ever appropriated by Congress and is $20.3 million more than was allocated last year, according to Schatz.

“This money will enable DHHL to provide financing for home construction or repair, rental assistance, and other housing services aimed at reducing homelessness. We look forward to our increased capacity to deliver housing to native Hawaiians and fulfill the mission of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1920,” said Tyler Iokepa Gomes from the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.

The bill passed the Senate Thursday and now heads to the president’s desk for his signature.
