Authorities called to the Wainaku area last week led to the discovery of over 600 pounds of reportedly stolen bananas.

At 6:20 p.m. on Oct. 7, 2021, Hawai‘i Police responded to a facility off Māmalahoa Highway where they saw two men in a vehicle with the produce. The bananas were recently picked and the men did not have a bill of sale or receipt for transport, HPD stated.

The two suspects were identified and the bananas were recovered, however, the owners of the produce remain unknown.

Police ask anyone with information about this theft to contact Officer Jonathan Masutani at 808-961-2213, or by email at [email protected] or call the police department’s non-emergency line at 808-935-3311.
