HONOLULU (KHON2) — This wet season for Hawaii will run from October through April 2023 and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released its forecasted rainfall outlook for it.

NOAA released details in an online briefing predicting that December through April 2023 will see large-scale above average rainfall. This as La Nina is also expected to continue into spring 2023.

Data also predicts that heavy rainfall may focus on the windward slopes while leeward areas remain dry.

Drought possibility may continue through the wet season however, drought recovery is more likely on Kauai and Oahu. The leeward side of Maui County and the Big Island could see the most drought.

NOAA said rainfall distribution can be influenced by the strength of La Nina which has persisted through 2022.
