During a news conference, police said all three victims were transported to the hospital in stable condition. The suspect is hospitalized in critical condition.

According to police, the suspect became unresponsive after he was handcuffed, however, he did not have any visible injuries. Police said the initial call was for medical assistance.

“The suspect who is in critical or who was transported to the hospital in critical condition… I am being told he did not have any visible injuries on him,” Honolulu Police Capt. Gordon Lum Kee said. “I am being told it was the other family members, the other three victims that had the slashing injuries.”

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) earlier reported that it was a 28-year-old man who was treated and transported to the hospital in critical condition. EMS also reported that two people, a 24-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, were treated and transported in serious condition. The third patient, a 50-year-old man, had minor injuries and was treated at the scene but declined transport, EMS said.

A person who lives in the area and wishes not to be identified said she heard the sirens in the morning.

“We came outside, and we were like, ‘What’s going on?’ and our neighbor who lives right there, she came over and she told us that something had happened,” the neighbor said, “and that they needed the police. She had heard our neighbor had heard them, somebody shout, ‘We need the police!'”

Police said the victims had slashing-type injuries and that the suspect used an “edged weapon,” but they are not calling it a knife. Police also shared that the suspect and victims are family members.

“A weapon that can cut and slice,” Lum Kee clarified. “There’s different types of knives and edged weapons out there, razor blades. It was just an edged weapon. That’s what we’re going with right now.”
