Gov. David Ige expanded the state's vaccination policy Thursday afternoon to include state contractors and visitors entering state facilities.
The current order, which went into effect on July 8, requires state employees to be vaccinated or face weekly COVID-19 testing.
The new directive goes into effect on Monday, Sept. 13.
Under Executive Order 21-07, all contractors entering, working or providing services in any state facility must identify employees accessing state facilities, and provide their vaccination status. Workers that are partially vaccinated or unvaccinated must have a negative COVID test result.
The order also requires anyone visiting a state facility where contact is made with a state employee to also provide proof of vaccination or provide a negative test result.
Contractors and visitors are also required to wear a mask at all times while in a state facility, and physically distance themselves from others.
Proof of vaccinations or COVID-19 test results may include digital or hardcopy documents.
The state also just announced its Hawaii Smart Health Card program which will allow people to use their smartphones to prove they have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
State officials say that starting Friday, people who have been vaccinated in Hawaiʻi will be able to upload a photo of their vaccination card to the Safe Travels Hawaii website to create a digital vaccination record. The website will crosscheck this information with data stored in the state’s vaccination database.
Starting Monday, the City and County of Honolulu will require patrons of restaurants, bars, museums, theaters and other establishments to show proof of vaccination or a negative test for COVID-19 taken within the previous 48 hours.
Maui County will start a similar program on Wednesday, though patrons won’t have the option to show a negative test. Unvaccinated diners may dine outside or order take-out.
