Contact tracing underway after Hawaii County official tests positive for COVID-19
HAWAII ISLAND, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Hawaii County official has tested positive for COVID-19, the mayor’s office announced Wednesday night.
The name and position of the official wasn’t released, however the county says other officials have been notified. The county did not say if Mayor Mitch Roth was potentially exposed.
“This is a sobering example of the real and evident threat that COVID-19 poses in our community,” Roth said.
“As we continue to work through this situation in our own workplace to protect the health and safety of others in our community, we would like to remind folks that this can happen to anyone, and now, more than ever, we need to be vigilant and do all we can to keep each other safe.
The administration has enforced social distancing protocols, and contact tracing is underway. Close contacts will be tested and told to quarantine.
“We wish our employee speedy recovery and thank the community for their patience and understanding as we work through this – together,” Roth added.
