HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - After a years-long effort to save Pali Lanes, the Windward Oahu bowling alley will close for good at the end of June.

The Kailua bowling alley faced many hardships before the pandemic, but the effects of COVID-19 limiting and closing business proved to be too difficult.

The owners recently approached Alexander & Baldwin to initiate closing discussions.

Daniel Sylva and Arthur Machado, owners of Pali Lanes, said pandemic made the business impossible to sustain.

“It is with great sadness that we have to close the bowling center,” said Sylva.

Both owners said they greatly appreciate the community’s loyal support over its 60 years of operation.

“I will miss seeing the leagues, school groups, senior bowlers and special needs teams the most,” said Machado.

While the closure of the bowling alley will be felt by the Kailua community and beyond, Alexander & Baldwin said it is committed to exploring ways to preserve the Pali Lanes building and finding uses that appeal to residents and surrounding local businesses.
