A former Kauai Police Department clerk was arrested last week on allegations of on-the-job felony theft and fraud, according to court documents.
Mikalynn Hiranaka is accused of using a computer to steal more than $20,000 in fees collected by the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center, a project under the state Department of the Attorney General. The alleged crimes took place between 2017 and 2019, while Hiranaka was employed as a clerk in the KPD records division, according to the indictment.
Hiranaka surrendered to Kauai County authorities last Thursday and was released after posting a $10,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear before a Kauai circuit court judge on May 24.
