HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Free COVID testing is being offered on Molokai after several new cases were identified.

Officials said there have been at least five positive cases linked to a construction worksite at Molokai General Hospital.

State Rep. Lynn DeCoite said the total number of positive cases in the community stands at 12.

Molokai General said on Tuesday a contractor from Maui who had been working at the hospital tested positive for COVID.

DeCoite said none of the infected individuals had been vaccinated.

As cases rise, she urged Molokai to remain vigilant.

“We need to keep wearing masks and social distancing,” said DeCoite. “I do encourage those that have not been vaccinated to do so.  The vaccine doesn’t just protect you; it does help protect those around you.”

State health officials are conducting contact tracing on Molokai. Additionally, free testing will be offered at Molokai General on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

No appointment is needed.
