HPD Investigates Anonymous Threatening Calls to Waiākea High

Hawai‘i police have initiated terroristic threatening cases in connection to threats received by personnel at Waiākea High School two days in a row.

On Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at 9:49 a.m., Hilo patrol officers responded to anonymous telephonic threats received by Waiākea High School against one of their faculty. Police initiated a terroristic threatening case upon behalf of the faculty member. Police also maintained a presence at the school while it was in session on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022.

After students were released from school on Thursday, Hilo patrol officers responded again to Waiākea High School at 3:05 p.m. to a report of anonymous threats made against the school. A systematic search of the school found no unauthorized persons or weapons/devices on campus and police will be on campus Friday, Jan. 7.
