HONOLULU — Effective today, Monday, Sept. 13, all public libraries and offices for the Hawai‘i State Public Library System will implement and enforce proof-of-vaccination or negative COVID-19 test within the last 72 hours to enter.
All visitors 12 years and older to public libraries and support offices must provide the following before entering a facility:
• Proof of full vaccination (digital or hard copy of vaccination card) or, if not fully vaccinated, a negative COVID-19 test result issued within the last 72 hours;
• Valid photo identification.
Visitors 5 years old and older must also wear a suitable mask covering their nose, mouth and chin at all times while in the library, practice hand hygiene, and are reminded to physically distance themselves from others.
Visitors unable to enter will be provided assistance by staff at the door. Staff will make every effort to answer questions, assist with photo-copying, pull requested items and provide checkout and account services.
The HSPLS thanks patrons for their patience and support as staff navigates the on-going changes in guidance and requirements from local, state and federal authorities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The HSPLS digital doors are always open at librarieshawaii.org. With just a library card patrons can download ebooks, stream movies, learn a language, read The New York Times and more.
You have to be fully vaccinated but you still have to wear a mask and social distance? What’s the point of being vaccinated then? This doesn’t make any sense
The point of being vaccinated is to greatly reduce the chance of getting or spreading COVID-19 and to effectively end the pandemic. Until such time as enough people are vaccinated and cases sufficiently decrease we have to continue with the additional layers of protection like masking and social distancing. Vaccination and masking only work if everyone or nearly everyone does it. Currently, we’re on tier 5 which requires indoor masking. The plan is to implement tier 6 and end masking and other restrictions when 70% are fully vaccinated.
Yep, well… this is troubling. Restriction on information. As if the library wasn’t doing poorly already. Implementation of this is ridiculous. Where is the science to back this mandate up? Oh right they’re just making it up as we go.
So we can sit at tables to eat and drink next to each other and magically not get covid yet we can’t be in the same building to read books with masks on because we are making personal health chose to not get the jab?? Ok makes total sence
This is a flat-out over reaction and simultaneously manipulative and punitive. If you are wearing a mask and keep your distance, which has proven to be a main driver of decreasing contagion, why the ‘punishment’ other than need to assert control. It’s a form of social engineering that in the long run creates more division in the social order. I have never voted Republican in my 72 years, but if some appear on the scene with even a hint of moderate viewpoints I’ll certainly give them a second look.
May God grant that this horrible Government over reach of Power is found to be UNCONSTITUTIONAL by the Supreme Court!

Who are the most vaccine hesitant group on Earth? PhD’s! Why ? They know it’s not about science, it’s about control. They know how to do independent research and interpret the data.

Don’t we all pay taxes, well, those of us that work do, not the same for churches and welfare recipients. How about we split the budget for libraries and open one for tax payers? Then you can have your own safe space to practice your discrimination and we can have the doors open for everyone.

The libraries have been inaccessible since this began Immediately all libraries were closed and this is when there was no in person schooling I had suggested that libraries open immediately to serve all our residents who so needed this for keiki The proposal to open for a small group each hour; for the 45 minutes in person was finally instituted I am sure the librarians on staff in libraries closed to the public were not happy with not much to do during this time And now again, the most ridiculous rule with no warning and it does not make sense There are ways to keep the libraries safe… we already did this. Please let’s get the libraries back open with masking … and eliminate the new requirements of vaccine or test
Well, that should minimize the number of customers at the publicly financed library. Local government always trying to figure out new and different ways to increase their customer base. Soon….no customers but plenty of employees. Do they supply vaccine passports to those who have been infected, recovery and now have the best antibodies??
Perhaps I should withhold all or a portion of my State taxes. Or should I send my check wrapped in an hermetically sealed plastic envelope?
