HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi released the city’s annual sustainability report on Friday in recognition of Earth Day.

The city’s goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45% in the next three years. And so far, more than a third of conservation actions have been completed.

They include new electric buses, bikeways and energy and water efficiency upgrades at city facilities.

“This is a very complicated situation yet no small contribution goes un-needed if you will. We all can make a difference, however we choose to do it,” Blangiardi said.

“Just remember as we celebrate Earth Day, that there’s only about 3% of all the water on this planet that is fresh water and only 1.2% is actually drinking water, so treat water as a gift,” said Board of Water Supply’s Manager and Chief Engineer Ernie Lau.

The city also created a new webpage with sustainability tips called Conserve808.
