More than 200 construction industry leaders gathered at Pacific Resource Partnership’s annual reception where Doug Rogers of Moss Construction was honored by the Hawaii Regional Council of Carpenters as the 2023 Outstanding Union Builder of the Year.

Rogers was instrumental in bringing Moss Construction to Hawaii in 2014. He found the family-owned company’s values of honoring relationships, uncompromising integrity and spirited perseverance aligned well with the state’s values. Rogers’ personal mission statement is “Do the right thing, all the time.”

“Our partnership with Doug and Moss has grown as we worked to focus on growing Hawaii’s clean energy future with major solar projects to help our state reach its renewable energy goals,” said Ron Taketa, executive secretary treasurer of the Hawaii Regional Council of Carpenters.

In less than a decade, under Rogers’ leadership, Moss Construction built partnerships with local companies that are addressing affordable housing and climate change. Moss has completed large multifamily residential affordable housing developments including Kaiwahine Village on Maui, and Kapolei Lofts and The Element at Ho‘opili on Oahu. Projects addressing Hawaii’s clean energy goals include the state’s largest block of solar projects in Kawailoa, Waipio and Mililani —110 megawatts — as well as Hawaii’s largest battery energy storage system, Mililani I Solar, completed ahead of schedule, which will provide a reliable, low-cost source of electricity for Hawaiian Electric’s grid.
