Nearly nine of 10 salaried employees in the state Department of Education are either partially or fully vaccinated, based on figures through Aug. 31, according to a press release on Wednesday.

That means 19,559 of 21,980 active salaried DOE personnel have received at least one shot for an 89% vaccination rate, the DOE said.

The agency provided a further breakdown of vaccination rates by school complex area, with Farrington-Kaiser-Kalani reflecting the highest vaccination rate so far, at 94%, and Hana-Lahainaluna-Lanai-Molokai showing the lowest, at 75%.

At state offices, the vaccination rate is 95% according to the chart.

The DOE began tracking figures after Gov. David Ige announced that state and county employees would be required to get vaccinated or submit to weekly Covid testing. Vaccinated personnel can upload their status to an electronic DOE human resources system. The requirement for DOE workers kicked in Aug. 30.

“Increasing vaccination rates within our communities continues to be one of the best ways we can protect ourselves and those around us from Covid-19,” interim superintendent Keith Hayashi said in a statement. “I’m proud that our employees are doing their part to contribute to the health and safety of our students and school communities.”
