DOH: Over 35,000 COVID-19 vaccines administered statewide

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii Department of Health provided an update on vaccination efforts this week.

As of Friday, health officials said 91,700 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been received by the state — 54,600 of those being the Pfizer-BioNTech brand, and 37,100 of the Moderna vaccine.

So far, over 35,000 vaccinations have been administered statewide.

An additional 17,550 doses of the Pfizer’s vaccine have been ordered for delivery next week, with potentially thousands more in the works from Moderna.

Healthcare professionals and elderly residents in long-term care homes have already received the vaccine in large numbers considering they were classified as top priority.

The DOH said they could release information on how people 75 and older can register to get vaccinated as soon as next week.

“We want to make sure the vaccine is administered in a safe, secure, orderly manner. No waiting outside in line no sitting in your car for hours with the motor running, waiting for your vaccine. We want to make this a much smoother process. A process filled with Aloha and a process filled with safety,” DOH spokesperson Brooks Baehr said.
