HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - An employee in the Maui mayor’s office has tested positive for COVID-19, but officials said Tuesday the mayor was not exposed.

The employee who tested positive last worked in the County Building on Dec. 31, and remains asymptomatic and in isolation.

“Everyone who had close contact with the individual has already been notified by DOH contact tracers. It is very unlikely anyone who was not contacted by DOH has been affected,” Victorino said, in a statement.

“Public health protocols are strongly enforced in the County Building. All common areas in the building have been professionally disinfected and will be professionally sanitized again.”

He said the County Building remains open.
