Members of Hawaii’s congressional delegation recount a terrifying day in DC
HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Some of Hawaii’s congressional members were hunkered down inside their offices when rioters breached the US Capitol building on Wednesday.
Others watched the violence unfold on TV.
US Rep. Ed Case spoke to Hawaii News as he was locked down in his office. He got choked up speaking directly to Trump supporters. His message: Everyone should condemn the violence.

“I certainly hope in the deepest part of my heart that if you voted for President Trump then you are my constituent,” he said. “You can look yourself in the mirror right now and say this is wrong.”
US Rep. Kai Kahele said the violence began just as he was about to head to the Capitol building.
“Things escalated pretty quickly and I decided to stay with my family,” said Kahele.
He said the president’s behavior has increased talk of another impeachment or to remove him as unstable. “If a resolution was introduced tonight in the house to impeach the president and invoke the 25th Amendment, I would vote for it immediately. The President needs to be removed from office.”
Hawaii-born US Sen. Tammy Duckworth, of Illinois, put the blame at the top. “The blame for this is Donald Trump. He is the one who has been spreading conspiracy theories and falsehoods,” she said.
