HONOLULU (KHON2) — 11:13 a.m. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory has downgraded the volcano alert level from Warning to Watch and the aviation color code from Red to Orange, as the eruption at Halemaʻumaʻu has stabilized.
Fountaining lava within the crater has been estimated to be up to 25 m (82 ft) high. A lava lake has been observed growing larger since Sunday night. The Observatory said it is rising approximately several meters (yards) an hour.
The Canada-France-Hawaii telescope on Maunakea caught video of the eruption.
8:00 a.m. An early-morning photo of the plume generated during the ongoing eruption at the Halemaʻumaʻu Crater of the Kilauea Volcano was captured by USGS Volcanoes.
6:30 a.m. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports the situation at the Halemaʻumaʻu Crater of the Kilauea Volcano has stabilized. The crater lake has evaporated and is slowly being replaced with a lava lake. The threat of ash fallout is very low but is possible in the Kau and South Kona Districts.
6:08 a.m. David Phillips, geologist at the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, joined Wake Up 2day with the latest update on Halemaʻumaʻu.
4:09 a.m. There has been no major changes as new eruption was reported in Halema’uma’u late Sunday night, according to USGS Volcanoes.
Dec. 21, 4:00 a.m. The fountain on the N wall of Halemaʻumaʻu crater is dominant, with weaker fountaining exhibited at W fissures.
10:49 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued an ash warning, fallout is likely in the in Ka’u district and Hwy 11 southwest of Volcano. Areas include Wood Valley, Pahala, Naalehu and Ocean View. Stay indoors to avoid Exposure to ash.

10:17 p.m. Halemaumau is erupting again according to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
The Park’s social media pages posted a picture of the crater’s glow of lava with the caption “Happening now: a new eruption of Kīlauea inside Halemaʻumaʻu.”
A magnitude 4.4 earthquake was centered in the vicinity of the South Flank of Kilauea at approximately 10:36 p.m.
