Maui Vaccination Clinic Temporarily Closes Due To Shortage

The Maui Health Community Vaccination Clinic has been forced to pause its COVID-19 vaccination program after learning Friday evening from the state that it would not be receiving this weekend’s and next week’s shipment from the Department of Health as expected, a news release says.

More than 3,000 community members and 1,000 employees and providers have been vaccinated through the program, which launched Jan. 8. But without the next shipment, the clinic says it has to cancel all first dose appointments that were scheduled from Sunday to Feb. 7 so it can ensure everyone who received their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine will be able to get their second dose in time.

Maui Health System CEO Mike Rembis told the Maui News that he spent Friday morning placing urgent calls in search of at least 975 doses to last through the weekend at the clinic.
